CLOUD

Your data always available

What is the Cloud?

“The Cloud” or Cloud Computing is a technological model that allows companies and individuals to access different computing resources or services (both software and hardware) from any location, on demand via the Internet, and in a personalised way. These resources can be quickly configured and are provided by a specialised provider who manages them.

Cloud Computing opens up the possibility of using customised solutions over the internet without the need for computer servers or experts to install, maintain and update these servers.

What is cloud computing for?

A cloud computing system significantly changes workloads. The user’s computer or the company’s server is no longer doing the heavy work when it comes to running applications or providing access to data. The network of servers that make up “the cloud” takes care of this instead.

All the user needs to run a cloud application is the cloud service interface software, which can be as simple as a web browser, and internet access. The cloud service network takes care of the rest.

This has multiple advantages, such as access to countless resources without the need to pay licensing fees for each terminal where you want to use these applications or services.

What types of Cloud providers are there?

The differences between providers focus mainly on the type of service offered by each, although there are several providers offering solutions in all categories. The main categories are:

IaaS

Infrasctructure as a Service. They are the providers of hardware resources in the cloud. Examples include Microsoft Azure, AWS and Google Cloud.

PaaS

Platform as a Service. It offers the possibility to quickly create customised solutions based on advanced pre-designed tools. It is the halfway point between IaaS and SaaS. Examples include SAP Cloud, AWS Lambda, Microsoft Azure.

SaaS

Software as a Service. These are the providers that offer cloud-based software services. Examples include Dropbox, Canva, Salesforce and Google Suite.

Features and benefits of Cloud Services

Efficiency and Savings

You only pay for the use of cloud resources (e.g. data storage service). There are no additional costs such as infrastructure investment or licensing costs.

Functionality

Only the specific services to be used are contracted, which allows for a fully customised service.

Scalability

The processing power, storage capacity, as well as any other contracted service, can be easily expanded or reduced according to the needs of each moment in order to adapt to the evolution of the company.

Storage

Storage capacity is virtually unlimited.

Multi-user

Different users within an organisation can consume services from the same cloud platform.

Outsourcing

Companies can delegate the management of IT resources to a specialised external provider, regardless of their location, and can focus all their resources on activities directly related to value creation.

Mobility

The services are always available regardless of location, time of access or device, as long as we have an Internet connection.

Security

Cloud service providers incorporate various security tools that ensure optimal management of data access control, preventing breaches of security measures and keeping information safe at all times.

Backups

Cloud service providers facilitate distributed backup and rapid data recovery in the event of a disaster.

Management and Maintenance

Companies do not need to worry about complex technical issues of interoperability between solutions, installation, maintenance (software or hardware) or security updates. These are carried out by the specialised staff of the cloud service provider.

Leading Cloud IaaS service providers

There are several Cloud service providers but 3 in particular offer the greatest market penetration, with a complete range of services to meet the needs of any business:
